Dancer and choreographer Matthew Quigley is currently a freelance dancer in Montreal. He is an imaginative and compelling dancer with strong training in ballet, modern, contemporary dance, and physical theatre.  

His choreography explores narratives and contemporary ideas of society, humanity and popular culture combining movement, multi-media art and physical theatre.

In Montreal, Matthew collaborates and performs with LA TRESSE collective. Professional experience includes working with Company Stephanie Batten Bland with performances of “Look Who’s coming to Dinner” at La Mama NYC and “Movements on single use Plastics” at the UN in Manhattan. “Stone Skipping” with Gallim Dance, choreographed by Andrea Miller at The Metropolitan Museum, NYC, 2017, and as a summer dance instructor at the Osceola School for the Arts, Kissimmee Florida, 2018.

Matthew has participated in programs in Canada, the United States, Germany, and Israel. Studying at The Juilliard School he has had the unique privilege of participating in the creation of world premieres under the tutelage of renowned choreographers Stefanie Batten Bland, Roy Assaf, Katarzyna Skarpetowska, and Helen Simoneau, and a solo by Danielle Agami of Ate9 Dance. Additional repertoire includes Crystal Pite “Grace Engine”, Aszure Barton “Come In”, Richard Alston “Sheer Bravado”, and James Kudelka “The Nutcracker”.

During summers, Matthew has enjoyed studying and performing works with Ate9 Dance Company under Danielle Agami (Scholarship Award), Batsheva Summer Intensive Program, San Francisco Conservatory of Dance (Choreography Residency), Alvin Ailey Summer Intensive, Palucca University of Dance, and other shorter training programs including BODYTRAFFIC and Houston Ballet. At a young age, Matthew started his training at Canada’s National Ballet School in the Professional Dance Program.

Matthew’s recent choreographic creations include a short film entitled “DINO”. The Short film, directed by Alexander Lu and Claire Halloran, premiered on FilmShortage.com in 2020 and was also featured on Beyond the Short. DINO was also presented in live format at a CreateART performance event in 2019.

Mr. Quigley has choreographed utilizing projection mapping for site specifics works performed at the Royal Ontario Museum and The Gardiner Museum both located in Toronto Canada. For his creative projects while at Canada’s National Ballet School he was awarded the Jeff Melanson Prize upon graduation.

As an artist interested in other forms of art and expression Matthew actively practices photography, singing and drawing. As a native of Saint Bruno, Quebec, Canada he is bilingual in English and French.
